Parking Fines
With effect from Monday 3rd April 2006, the Fixed Charge Penalty Notice is being introduced nationally by the Department of Transport, as part of the Government’s extension of the Penalty Points System. The Fixed Charge Penalty System is being introduced for Traffic and Parking Offences. At present Local Authority Traffic Wardens issue fine on the spot notices, commonly known as tickets, on parked vehicles. The content of these tickets is prescribed in statutory regulations. The Fine-on-the-spot system is being abolished for offences committed on or after 3rd April 2006.
The Fixed Charge Penalty System prescribes that when the notice has been issued, the fixed charge must be paid within 28 days. If the charge has not been paid, the charge is increased by 50% and the increased charge must be paid within a further 28 days. No payment is acceptable after 56 days. The regulations provide that if the charge has not been paid within the 56 days, the offence is then the subject of a summons.
The new fixed charge penalty list is as follows:

| 2. | Parking an omnibus not wholly within omnibus stand roadway markings / stopping an omnibus not wholly within omnibus stopping place road markings. | €40.00 |
| 3. | Parking a vehicle in / entering upon a street. Subject to a prohibition on / entering / parking. | €40.00 |
| 4. | Parking a vehicle in a place prohibited. | €40.00 |
| 5. | Parking vehicle for / at a time prohibited. | €40.00 |
| 6. | Parking a vehicle in a manner prohibited. | €40.00 |
| 7. | Unlawful parking in a bus lane. | €60.00 |
| 8. | Unlawful parking of a vehicle in a loading bay. | €40.00 |
| 9. | Parking a vehicle in a Disc Parking area without displaying a valid Parking Disc. | €40.00 |
| 10. | Parking a vehicle wholly or partly on a footway. | €40.00 |
| 11. | Parking a vehicle other than a vehicle of a specified class. | €40.00 |
| 12. | Parking a vehicle in a public road Disk Parking area within one hour of having previously parked in a Disc parking place on the same public road. | €40.00 |
| 13. | Standing street service vehicle for hire at a place which is not an appointed street service vehicle stand. | €40.00 |
| 14. | Failing to display a current Vehicle License Disc. | €60.00 |
| 15. | Stopping a vehicle on a clearway. | €60.00 |
| 16. | Parking a vehicle in a manner in which it will interfere with the normal flow of traffic or which obstructs or endangers other traffic. | €40.00 |
| 17. | Parking a vehicle in a disabled persons parking bay without displaying a valid disabled persons parking permit. | €80.00 |
| 18. | Unlawful parking of a heavy goods vehicle. | €40.00 |
