Clonakilty is the premier tourist destination in the Cork South West Area.   In June 2007 Clonakilty District was awarded the title of European Destination of Excellence – Best Emerging Rural Tourism Destination 2007 in a competition funded and organised by Fáilte Ireland with support from the European Union.

Clonakilty is a past winner of the National Tidy Towns Award and currently holds a Gold Award.   In 2006 Clonakilty won the National Pride of Place competition and a Silver Award in the international Livcom competition which was held in Hangzhou, China.

Clonakilty is an expanding town but still holds its charm and excellent quality of life.   We have a newly developed West Cork Technology Park which is currently undergoing further development.   Our town has been selected by our Government to host one of its decentralised offices and the OPW is currently developing state of the art offices at Clogheen, Clonakilty.
