NOTICES OF MOTION
(a) Motion from Cllr. Kevin O’Regan
“That Clonakilty Town Council
with the support and cooperation of Cork County Council and An Garda Siochana initiate
Ireland’s first ‘Green Road / Bóthar Glas’ from the Model Railway Village
entrance to the end of the first causeway on the Inchydoney road.
A ‘Green Road /Bóthar Glas’ simply means the maximum speed limit for motorised
vehicles would be reduced, which would give pedestrians, cyclists and leisure
horse riders priority on this section and should enable their safe access to
Inchydoney Island. (At the end of the causeway pedestrians would be encouraged
to turn left and continue their safe journey to Inchydoney along ‘the short
cut’ road as its known locally.)
This scheme was introduced in the Channel Islands in 1987 with great success
and much media attention. The concept of ‘Green Roads’ could be one of
Clonakilty’s main tourist selling points where a small town has put ‘people
before cars’ along a very popular busy access road to one of the country’s
finest beaches.”
(b) Motion from Cllr. John Loughnan
“Following confirmation in the recently
published Programme for Government that Tourism is a key area for economic
recovery and progress, this Council requests the management of Cork Airport and
the Department of Tourism to investigate the immediate possibility of using the
old terminal building as a hub for one of the low cost carriers such as
Ryanair. More needs to be done to improve access to West Cork from
the UK and mainland European markets. Acting on this
motion would give substantial opportunities to increase employment and
spending power to the tourist industry in this region.
If this motion is passed, I propose that it is forwarded to the next meeting of
Cork County Council for their support.”
(c)
Motion from Cllr. Cionnaith O’Súilleabhán
“That in the event of future,
unforeseen problems such as that experienced recently with the public water
system in the Clonakilty area, that Cork County Council, Clonakilty Town
Council, HSE and all other statutory and local bodies use all possible methods
to inform the general public of such disruption and updates to ensure that such
important information reaches as many people as possible at the critical
times”.
